Who we are

Thousands of theses are written here. There is no way to find them.

Research is often never stored digitally. Physical copies are sometimes kept only temporarily, then discarded for space. Even where copies survive, anyone looking for them has to know to ask a specific university, rather than finding the work in one place.

And research occasionally happens to inform a government or institutional decision, but there is no systematic pathway from a finding to implementation. Wasomi Scholars exists to build that pathway.

Our Work

Five programmes, one research-to-impact pipeline.

The Repository exists today. The four programmes that follow it are planned. Each one closes a different gap between finished research and real use.

01 · Wasomi repository

A centralized, searchable home for Zanzibar's theses and projects.

The Repository is the core platform and the foundation the rest of our work builds on. Students upload completed theses and projects, supervisors approve them, our admin team gives final approval, and each work is tagged with metadata so it can be discovered and properly cited later.

On approval, the platform reads the abstract and key sections and identifies which stakeholders would be most interested. One click sends the research and a notification straight to them.

About Us

A small team with one stubborn belief about Zanzibar's research.

That it is good enough to change things, and that the only thing missing is a systematic route from the finding to the decision.

Our Story

It started with a question nobody could answer.

A group of us wanted to know what research already existed on Zanzibar's coastal economy before starting our own. The answer, across three universities, was that nobody knew. The work existed, but only on shelves and in supervisors' drawers.

That is a waste twice over. Students pick a topic without knowing someone at another university has already covered it. Decision-makers make choices without evidence that was sitting a kilometre away.

Wasomi Scholars started as a shared spreadsheet of theses. It is now a working public repository, with fellowships, courses, forums and awards planned around it. All of it fixes the same problem.
